LIFE, LOVE and being a MARRIAGE CELEBRANT
In 2012 I had a Destination Wedding in Uluwatu Bali on a private beach with dear family and friends. My husband and I have a love of the ocean and wanted the sand between our toes for the entire day (ceremony and reception). It was something never done before at the site we chose but I had a vision and through my drive, passion and organisational skills I brought this vision to life. I absolutely loved planning every detail of our wedding and writing our entire ceremony and it was this experience that made me want to do this for a living – HELLO marriage celebrancy.
My love of public speaking began in high school, continued throughout university where I studied Cultural Tourism with a major in Event Management, and then developed further through many and varied speaking engagements and speech writing opportunities, predominately working in Federal Government. Whilst I may have many runs on the board with speaking to both large and small crowds, I never cease to be moved by the ceremonies I deliver, and am known to shed a tear or two (don’t fret I won’t be a blubbering mess).
Home and Away is still my favourite TV show but I’m also a Game of Thrones tragic and love anything to do with home renovations. I am forever on a quest for the perfect handbag (camel coloured, single strap in case you are interested) and have a love of accessories with quite the collection of earrings, scarves and necklaces.
Jarrad my husband is the most kind-hearted, intelligent, supportive, and fit and fabulous man who shares my passions, engages me in stimulating conversation, and constantly makes me laugh and smile. We have two adorable children, Xavier a cheeky and inquisitive six-year-old boy and Chloe my three-year-old beautiful little 2016 Christmas present (I was discharged on Christmas Eve just in time to get her first photo with Santa!!!).
I would say that travel has truly shaped who I am today. I grew up camping and share this passion with my husband and kids. My soul is the happiest when I am out in the wilderness, heck our honeymoon was in Antarctica. As a teenager I lived in The Netherlands for a year as an exchange student and truly immersed myself in another culture. Since this relatively tame cultural immersion (where I learnt that I suck at learning languages) I have travelled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, USA, the South Pacific and Africa; including volunteering as an aide worker predominately with orphaned children and on income generating projects in Nepal and Kenya. Through these experiences I have developed a social conscience and enthusiasm for working with multicultural communities, in-particular refugees, and people less fortunate than myself.
Aside from travel my passions include photography (especially my kids, just ask my five year old who constantly says ‘no more pictures mummy’), scuba diving (even did this in my wedding dress – the ultimate trash the dress experience), and good food, wine and conversation. I thrive on new experiences which is what drew me towards being a celebrant as every wedding and every couple is different and I just love that.
